Dr Schmidt

"Patient communication while providing the highest quality patient care is my highest priority"

Before Joining the Delaware Eye Institute in 2013, Dr. Schmidt practiced primary care optometry in the Delaware/ Maryland area for 8 years. A native of the Philadelphia area, he received his undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware. From there, he attended optometry school at the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. “My training at SCO exposed me to many aspects of eye care including: pediatrics, eye disease, low vision, vision therapy and contact lenses.” While attending optometry school, Dr. Schmidt participated in a research project involving correcting far-sightedness in children. During externships he provided eye exams for the navy, including pilots, at the Naval Air Base in Corpus Christi, TX.

In 2005 Dr. Schmidt moved to the area full time, but has been spending his summers in the area since he was 8 years old. “While in undergraduate and optometry school, I would come back to the area to work as a bartender and server to make a little extra money for the school year, and to enjoy the beaches.”

When not working, Dr. Schmidt enjoys staying active. His favorite activities include ice hockey, golf, running, and most recently, martial arts.
